Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur scored two goals in the team's 4-0 victory against Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Champions League in Serbia on Wednesday.

The goals came in the 57th and 61st minutes and brought Son's career tally in Europe to 123.

He has now broken the tie for the most goals by a Korean player in all European leagues with Cha Bum-kum, who scored 121 goals while playing in the German Bundesliga from 1978 to 1989.

Many expected that Son would not play in the match after he injured Everton midfielder Andre Gomes three days ago.

During an English Premier League match on Sunday, Son's tackle left Gomes with a fractured and dislocated ankle. Son broke down in tears and was given a yellow card, later changed to red and a three-match suspension, which was overturned following an appeal from Spurs on Monday.

Gomes had successful surgery on Monday.
