Korea will have a friendly with Georgia in Istanbul early next month.
The Korea Football Association said it is fine-tuning details of the friendly planned for Sept. 5, which is going to be a final tune-up, just a week ahead of Korea's first match of the second round of Asian Qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Korea will face Turkmenistan on Sept. 10. As there are no direct flights between the two countries, Turkey is considered the best stopover option. Georgia shares a border with Turkey.
Georgia is ranked 94th in the latest FIFA world rankings, compared to Korea's 37th. The two countries have never played each other, and it will be Korea's first match against a European team since Paulo Bento took the helm of the national team in 2018.
Bento will release a roster next week for the friendly and the second round of Asian qualifiers for the World Cup.
