South and North Korea will face off against each other in a football match in Pyongyang in October.

The [South] Korea Football Association said Friday that South Korea will play North Korea in the third match of the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers at Kim Il-sung Stadium on Oct. 15.

It will be the first time in almost three decades that the two Koreas' football teams play a match on North Korean soil, since 1990 when they faced off in an inaugural Dynasty Cup match.

When they were also drawn in the same qualifying group for the 2010 World Cup, they played in Shanghai, China after the North requested that a match scheduled to be played in Pyongyang be moved to a third country.

South Korea, which is also grouped with Lebanon, Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan, will kick off its qualifying campaign with an away match against Turkmenistan on Sept. 10.
