Korean baseball legend and former national baseball team manager Sun Dong-yol will attend the New York Yankees' spring training early next year to learn more about the sport he has devoted his life to.
Speaking at a press conference in Seoul on Thursday, Sun said, "I will learn how Major League Baseball is run with the Yankees during spring training in February next year. It will be a new opportunity for me, as I'd like to contribute to the development of Korean baseball with what I learn in the big league."
The Yankees will arrange meetings with coaches and front office staff for Sun during his time there.
Steve Wilson, the Yankees' scouting coordinator for the Pacific Rim region who was present at the press conference, said it is the first time a Korean baseball coach has been invited to the Yankees' spring training, adding that it is a great honor to work with Sun, who has extensive experience in both Korean and Japanese baseball.
