Korea will be in uncharted territory when it faces Ukraine in the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Lodz, Poland on Saturday. It is the first time Korea has reached the final of a FIFA-hosted event.
Korea beat Ecuador 1-0 in their semifinal clash to reach the decider.
Ukraine is also making its first appearance in the U-20 final. Its previous best showings were advances to the round of 16 in 2001, 2005 and 2015.
The Eastern European country is unbeaten in this tournament with five wins and one draw. It defeated the U.S. and Qatar and drew with Nigeria in the group stage, advancing to the knockout stage at the top of its group.
It continued to beat Panama 4-1 in the round of 16, Colombia 1-0 in the quarterfinals and Italy 1-0 in the semifinals.
Over the six matches, the team scored 10 goals and allowed three, displaying a good balance of offense and defense.
Three players have scored all 10 goals for Ukraine -- four by Danylo Sikan, a center forward for FK Mariupol, who is currently ranked second in terms of goals scored in the tournament, three by Serhil Bulesta, an attacking midfielder for Dynamo Kiyv II and another three by Dynamo's center back, who will be forced to miss the final after receiving two yellow cards in the semifinals.
