Korea drew 1-1 with Iran in a friendly in Seoul on Tuesday, extending its winless streak against the Middle Eastern country to six matches with two draws and four losses since the 2011 AFC Asian Cup.

But Korea, No. 37 in the FIFA world rankings, finally ended its long goal drought against Iran (No. 21), as it had not scored a goal since a 1-0 victory in the quarterfinal of the Asian Cup in Qatar.

Korea gained the lead 13 minutes into the second half when striker Hwang Ui-jo found the net, but an own goal from defender Kim Young-gwon just four minutes later evened the score.

After the final tune-up match ahead of another round of Asian qualifiers in September for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Head coach Paulo Bento said both sides "played evenly in a very competitive match." He said he would "go over past matches to come up with appropriate tactics for the regional qualifiers."
