A huge arena, to be used mainly for staging K-pop concerts, will be built in Goyang, north of Seoul.
Entertainment giant CJ Group said Monday that it has joined hands with American sports and entertainment company AEG to build the 20,000-seat arena with facilities for live shows and performances.
AEG owns and operates about 160 arenas around the world including STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, which draws 22 million people annually, and the O2 Arena in London, which has attracted 50 million people since its opening in 2007.
"We expect the arena will serve as an iconic venue to draw K-pop fans home and abroad," said a spokesman at CJ Group.
