Hyundai signed a deal to form a strategic partnership with Croatian carmaker Rimac Automobili in which Hyundai will invest 80 million euros to develop high-performance electric vehicles.

Under the deal, Hyundai aims to come up with prototypes of a high-performance electric car and hydrogen fuel-cell car by next year.

European carmakers currently dominate the market for traditional high-performance cars, but Hyundai hopes to turn the tables with eco-friendly, high-performance cars.

Rimac Automobili, founded in 2009 by Mate Rimac, unveiled the world's fastest electric vehicle, C_Two, which can produce up to 1,888 horsepower and accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 1.85 seconds.
