Four in 10 millennials say they do not think they will ever be able to buy their own home.
In a survey by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs released Tuesday, an overwhelming 90 percent of respondents between 25 and 39 said they do think they need to own a home, but around half of them or 44 percent said they will probably not be able to afford one.
Some 10 percent said home ownership is not necessary.
Pessimism was particularly high in urban areas where, despite government efforts, property prices have continued to soar.
