President Moon Jae-in will pay an eight-day state visit to Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan from Tuesday, a Cheong Wa Dae spokesman said Sunday.
He will meet regional despots like ex-Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev over dinner to discuss the "Kazakh model" of denuclearization, which allowed the country to get rich in return for abandoning its nuclear weapons.
Nazarbayev abruptly resigned last month after 30 years of iron rule but still exerts enormous influence.
After gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Kazakhstan voluntarily gave up its nuclear weapons with Washington's support. In return, Kazakhstan received technologies and money from the U.S.
U.S. President Donald Trump apparently modeled his proposals to North Korea on the Kazakh model.
