At least 1,586 salaried workers earned more than W500 million last year (US$1=W1,139).
Conglomerate tracker Chaebul.com analyzed reports by 2,821 companies and found that 1,586 workers earned more than W500 million including wages, retirement pay and stock options.
The biggest proportion or 28.5 percent were employed by the top 10 conglomerates -- 91 each by Samsung and SK, 72 by Hyundai, 56 by LG, 39 by Lotte and 32 each by GS and Hanwha.
But 111 were not corporate executives, and 33 of them made almost W500 million in regular wages excluding stock options or other payments.
The highest earner in that group was Na Young-seok at CJ E&M, the star producer of popular reality shows like "Grandpas Over Flowers" and "Three Meals a Day," who took home W4.08 billion.
Fifteen others were investment bankers, five were TV producers or game developers and four were ship captains. All four of the captains worked for Dongwon Industries and earned more than the president of the canned tuna manufacturer.
