Ryu Hyun-jin of the Los Angeles Dodgers won his first career opening day start against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium on Thursday.
In six innings, Ryu allowed one run and four hits, striking out eight batters. He threw 82 pitches, 59 of which were strikes.
Ryu became the second Korean to earn a win as a starter in a Major League season opener after Park Chan-ho did it for the same team in 2001.
The Dodgers defeated the Diamondbacks 12-5, hitting eight homers, an MLB opening day record.
