The Asian Leadership Conference is scheduled to take place at Hotel Shilla in Seoul from May 14-15 under the theme, "The World at a Crossroads: Searching for Concrete Solutions," seeking to look for answers in times of uncertainty.

Around 170 leaders from around the world will take part in the conference, which is hosted by the Chosun Ilbo.

The former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, and the former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley will deliver keynote speeches. They should be able to provide accounts of the U.S. government's policy on North Korea.

From a more left-of-center perspective, former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder will offer his experiences of drastic cuts to the welfare state and German reunification. Also, Nobel laureate and economist Paul Romer will offer his insights on innovation and economic growth.

On the second day of the conference, former Italian Prime Minister Mateo Renzi, who became leader at the age of 39, will deliver a lecture on the dangers of populism.

On the sidelines, global AI, big data and blockchain start-ups will meet to discuss progress in their fields. Experts from mostly conservative U.S. political think tanks including the Brookings Institution, the Heritage Foundation, the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Atlantic Council will hold a debate on security and defense policies, while consultants from McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group and Bain & Company will offer their insights on corporate survival.

Experts from Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and University of California at Berkeley will offer advice on venture capitalism.
