Baseball spectators will be provided with face masks while watching games. The Korea Baseball Organization said Wednesday that it came up with the plan as fine dust pollution has been getting worse, making people reluctant to go outside and do outdoor activities.
The KBO said Wednesday, "We will offer 75,000 masks to baseball teams to reduce the inconvenience for fans who come to watch baseball games."
After being forced to cancel four games due to poor air quality last season, the KBO discussed ways to tackle the problem and it was able to receive W600 million from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism last month to cover the cost of providing masks for fans (US$1=W1,129).
The KBO will soon select a supplier for the masks and hopes to make them available by April 1. The season opener will be played on March 23.
