A Korean man who was hospitalized after falling off a cliff in the Grand Canyon in the U.S. last December is on his way back to Korea on Friday thanks to donations from his college.
The cost for his transfer alone is around W25 million, on top of over W1 billion in hospital bills (US$1=W1,126).
Professors and staff from Donga University in Busan made the donation for his transfer, and flagship carrier Korean Air put eight seats together to lay him out during the flight.
His return to Korea had been delayed due to the prohibitive medical costs.
Park flew to Canada in late 2017 to attend a language school and spent a year there. He decided to tour the U.S. on his way back home and made reservations through a local tour agency to visit the Grand Canyon in December last year, where he fell from a cliff. He was in coma for about 40 days.
