The husband of Korean Air heiress Cho Hyun-ah revealed in his divorce papers that her habitual physical assaults extended even to him.
According to legal sources on Friday, Cho's husband, a plastic surgeon, filed for divorce in April 2018 citing "repeated verbal and physical abuse" by Cho, who has also been convicted of assaulting staff and whose family's chronic anger management problems have repeatedly got them in trouble with the law.
The couple attended the same elementary school and tied the knot in 2010. He used to work as a doctor at Inha International Medical Center, which is run by his father-in-law's Hanjin Group, but resigned after the Cho family's abusive behavior became front-page news.
Courts usually compel couples seeking divorce to go through a cooling-off period, but the husband apparently bypassed the process and filed straight for divorce.
Cho, who became globally famous for the so-called "nut rage" incident, denies the allegations.
A source close to Cho said, "The husband demanded huge alimony but was turned down and appears intent on smearing Cho's name and hyping media attention," apparently to cash in on the negative publicity.
