Two more Korean women who were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese Imperial Army in World War II died on the same day Monday.
According to victims' advocates, 93-year-old Kim Bok-dong died late Monday night and another 93-year-old woman, identified only by her surname Lee, died Monday morning. Now only 23 Korean victims are still alive.
Seoul and Tokyo agreed in 2015 to set up a 1 billion-yen foundation to help the victims on condition that Japan would get out of admitting direct responsibility, but the deal has unraveled since it did not reflect the victims' wishes.
