Bookings for overseas travel over the Lunar New Year in early February have jumped 10.5 percent compared to last year, according to travel agency Hana Tour on Tuesday.

Hana Tour has had 41,000 overseas bookings for the first week of February so far. Last year, altogether 37,000 Koreans spent the holiday abroad.

The number will increase as the holiday is still some time away, a Hana Tour staffer said.

The most popular destination was Southeast Asia with 51.4 percent, followed by Japan with 24.2 percent, China with 11.4 percent, and Europe with 7.4 percent.

Bookings to the U.S. accounted for only 1.8 percent.
