One in four CEOs at big Korean conglomerates was hired from outside, though there is a high propensity to favor former Samsung Group executives.
Data released Wednesday by market researcher CEO Score shows that out of 566 heads in the top 500 companies, 51.8 percent worked their way up through their company. Some 25.3 percent were hired directly as CEOs from outside the conglomerate.
Among CEOs hired from outside, 23 were former Samsung executives. At CJ Group, which is the most prone to hiring CEOs from outside, seven out of 12 top executives were outsiders.
But all the CEOs at Hyundai Motor, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hanjin, Kumho Asiana, KT&G and S-Oil were chosen in-house.
