The Cultural Heritage Administration said Wednesday the traditional method of making soy sauce and bean paste, known as "jang" in Korea, will be registered as Korea's 137th intangible cultural asset.
The government said the age-old method of making jang from growing beans to fermentation is culturally significant because it is a collective process that promotes social exchanges and solidarity among families and communities.
With its tangy and savory flavors, jang is a beloved staple ingredient for many Koreans.
