Fine-dust emissions from diesel vehicles are decreasing as a result of the government's initiative to take old diesel vehicles off the streets.
The Environment Ministry said on Wednesday that fine-dust emissions from diesel cars has fallen by 2,085 tons, or 6.2 percent of its annual average of 33,698 tons, since it launched an initiative to cover the cost of scrapping old cars or equipping them with emissions-reduction devices early this year.
More than 130,000 cars have been subjected to the scheme.
The government will increase its efforts to combat air pollution and is considering giving more subsidies to car owners who replace their old diesel vehicles with eco-friendly cars.
