SK Innovation will build a plant to produce batteries for electric vehicles in the U.S. It will invest W1.14 trillion in the plant with an annual capacity of 9.8 gigawatt-hours of batteries in Jackson County, Georgia (US$1=W1,129).
SK will be the second Korean company to build an EV battery plant in the U.S. after LG Chem.
SK already has such plants in China and Hungary. It plans to break ground at the U.S. plant early next year with production slated to begin in 2022.
"As demand for batteries of electric cars is expected to increase, we will continue to invest in the global market," the company said.
