Veteran striker Lee Dong-gook has extended his contract with Jeonbuk Hyundai for another year, the club said Monday.
Lee, who will turn 40 in April next year, made his debut in the K-League in 1998. He played for Pohang Steelers and Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma before spending a brief spell with Middlesbrough in the English Premier League. He then settled on Jeonbuk Hyundai in 2009.
With his contract renewal, he is set to become the K-League's first active field player in his 40s next season. Lee is one of the K-League's all-time most successful players with 215 goals and 75 assists in some 503 appearances, the most by a field player in Korea.
"I thank the club for recognizing my efforts. I will do my best as a player for Jeonbuk Hyundai," he said.
