Hydrogen-fueled buses began operating in Seoul for the first time on Wednesday. The service runs five times a day along the No. 405 route between Yangjae-dong and Seoul Plaza in the capital.
Seoul is the second city in Korea to run hydrogen-fueled buses on a regular route after Ulsan, which first started operating eco-friendly vehicles last month.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government signed a memorandum of understanding with Hyundai on Wednesday to provide more hydrogen buses in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Environment.
Under the MOU, the carmaker will supply 30 more buses to six cities next year, and some 1,000 hydrogen buses nationwide by 2022.
