The SK Wyverns won the Korean Series baseball championship, the final series of the post-season playoffs, on Monday after defeating Doosan Bears to take the series 4-2 out of possible seven games.
It was a huge upset for the champions, who entered the series as the underdogs, having finished 14-and-a-half games behind the Bears in second place in the regular season. The Wyverns out-pitched and out-hit the Bears, who looked rusty after 20 days of rest before the series.
The victory was the perfect sendoff for the Wyverns' manager Trey Hillman, who will return to the U.S. next year to spend time with his ailing parents. Hillman is the first foreign manager to win the championship in Korea.
