Midfielder Ju Se-jong will join the Korean squad for friendlies in Australia later this month, replacing the injured Jung Woo-young. Korea will face Australia on Nov. 17 and Uzbekistan on Nov. 20.
Ju's addition to the roster was announced on Thursday. Jung injured his ankle while playing for his club Al Sadd in Qatar on Oct. 27, and has missed the last two matches.
Jung's injury comes as a big blow to the national team. With a couple of key players like Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur and Jang Hyun-soo of FC Tokyo excluded from the roster, the team's best midfielder, Ki Sung-yueng of Newcastle United, had already decided to skip the friendlies.
Announcing the roster earlier this week, manager Paulo Bento said he talked with Ki and agreed that the midfielder would be not selected this time so that he can cement his position at Newcastle.
