Korea was grouped with Australia, Cambodia and Chinese Taipei in the qualifying stages for the 2020 Asian Football Confederation U-23 Championship, in a draw held in Malaysia on Wednesday.
The tournament doubles as the Asian qualifiers for the Tokyo Olympics in the same year.
The top 11 winners in each group and the second-best teams from the top four groups will advance to the final qualifying rounds to be held in Thailand in January 2020.
Korea must beat Australia, its toughest opponent in the group, in the first round of the tournament in Cambodia in March next year to take first place in the group.
China, led by Dutch coach Guus Hiddink, will face Laos, Malaysia and the Philippines, while Vietnam, led by Korean coach Park Hang-seo, will compete against Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand.
