Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was named the winner of this year's Seoul Peace Prize on Wednesday.
Modi is only the second sitting head of government to receive the award, after German Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2014.
"Modi has improved the lives of 1.35 billion people in India, contributing to world peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region through international cooperation and economic collaboration with various countries while working on improving human welfare," said Choi Jung-ho, head of the prize committee.
Modi will receive an award plaque, with prize money of US$200,000 (US$1=W1,133).
