The number of foreign visitors to Korea surged last month, with Chinese and Japanese tourists leading the charge.
The Korea Tourism Organization said on Tuesday that 1.27 million foreigners visited in September, an 18.5 percent increase on-year.
Chinese tourist arrivals jumped 36.4 percent, due largely to the end of Beijing's unofficial tourism boycott in the wake of Seoul's deployment of a U.S. Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense battery. The number of Japanese visitors rose 12.7 percent on-year, though growth slowed somewhat due to a series of natural disasters in Japan.
Visitor numbers from other Asian countries and the Middle East also saw double-digit increases.
