Dutch coach Guus Hiddink will lead China's under-21 team with an eye on the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
The Chinese Football Association on Monday said Hiddink has been appointed as the coach of the country's under-21 national team in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics. It did not disclose details of Hiddink's contract.
Citing other media reports, Hong Kong's South China Morning Post said he would earn up to 4 million euros.
China has not been able to compete in the men's under-23 Olympic football tournament since the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
"I've got a good post at retiring age," the 71-year-old said in an interview with Dutch media. "My immediate goal is to take the team to the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo."
