Paulo Bento, the new head coach of the Korean national football team, on Monday announced the roster for two friendlies next month.
Korea will face Costa Rica on Sept. 7 and Chile on Sept. 11 in friendlies to be held in Goyang and Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
Of the 24-man roster, 17 were mostly players who had competed at the latest World Cup in Russia.
As Bento stressed at a press conference last week, footballers playing in Europe like Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur, Lee Jae-sung of Holstein Kiel and Ki Sung-yueng of Newcastle United were included.
In particular, Bento's selection of Ki is noticeable as Ki earlier hinted at retirement from the national team after the World Cup. Kim Young-gwon of Guangzhou Evergrande, and Hwang Ui-jo of Gamba Osaka were also included.
"I selected the players who recently showed good performances at the World Cup along with young players who have potential to grow," Bento said. "I am very excited about meeting them."
