Korean footballer Lee Kang-in made his debut for Spanish club Valencia CF's senior team on Tuesday.
His first top-level game came seven years after he joined Valencia's youth team in 2011. Lee, 17, came on as a substitute in the 23rd minute in a pre-season match against Lausanne-Sport of the Swiss Super League in Switzerland.
Last Saturday, Lee extended his contract with Valencia until 2022, with a buy-out clause set at 80 million euros. After signing the contract, he was immediately called up to train with Valencia's first team, and his debut followed swiftly.
Valencia and Lausanne drew 0-0. Lee, who wore a jersey carrying the No. 34, demonstrated his potential with some attacking play. Swarmed by media after the match, he repeatedly said in fluent Spanish, "Muy content," meaning "very happy." He went on to thank his teammates and everyone else who had helped him to realize his dream of playing for Valencia CF.
