A court on Tuesday refused an arrest warrant for disgraced Korean Air heiress Cho Hyun-ah sought by the Korea Customs Service on charges of smuggling luxury goods.
Prosecutors in Incheon said Tuesday that the court called for more solid evidence proving the alleged offenses.
Customs officials sought the arrest warrant on charges that Cho smuggled W600 million worth of goods aboard Korean Air flights (US$1=W1,135).
Cho told prosecutors that the expensive clothes and accessories she bought were all presents for friends abroad and she did not bring them into Korea.
This is the fifth time a court has refused an arrest warrant for a member of the Cho family as multiple criminal investigations close in.
