The ongoing heat wave has seen a spike in online shopping as consumers prefer to stay indoors.
Orders at Lotte Mart Mall from July 5 to 18 increased by 34.3 percent on-year with the biggest rise of 56 percent among shoppers in their 20s.
Vacation items were in high demand. Sales of sunglasses and other travel fashion accessories rose by 289 percent and outdoor goods 164.8 percent.
Food and other necessities also saw a sharp hike in online sales. At TMON, from July 11 to 17 rice and grain sold 260 percent more than the same period last year, fruit and vegetables 121 percent and fish and meat 109 percent.
"Consumers usually prefer to look at fresh products in person, but the heat wave has discouraged them," a TMON staffer said.
