Park Sung-hyun Named Best Female Golfer in U.S.

    Park Sung-hyun was named Best Female Golfer at the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards in the U.S.

    Presented by broadcaster ABC, the annual ESPY Awards were launched in 1993. They were presented by ESPN until 2014.

    Park made a successful U.S. debut in 2017, winning the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year award, topping the money list and sharing the Player of the Year award with Ryu So-yeon.

    Park is the first Korean to win the award. Previous winners include Michelle Wie of the U.S. (2014), Lydia Ko of New Zealand (2015, 2016) and Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand (2017).

    Among male golfers, Jordan Spieth of the U.S. won the award this year.

    Snowboarder Chloe Kim of the U.S., who won the gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, was chosen as the best female athlete overall, clinching three awards in total.

    The Best Male Athlete award went to Alexander Ovechkin of Russia, who plays for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League.
