Choo Shin-soo of the Texas Rangers extended his on-base streak to 48 games on Tuesday.
He walked twice, struck out once and grounded out twice in the Rangers' 8-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox in an away match at Fenway Park in Boston. It was the team's 50th loss of the season.
Choo is now tied with the Los Angeles Angels' Albert Pujols, who achieved the feat in 2001 when he played for the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Cincinnati Reds' Joey Votto (2015).
Choo also became the sole Rangers player selected to play in this year's All Star Game, which starts next week. His selection will earn him a bonus check of US$100,000 under the seven-year contract he signed with the Rangers in 2014.
