If you are struggling with muffin tops, you might need to be particularly cautious about exposure to fine dust particles, as they can be more harmful for people with belly fat.
According to a study, lung capacity decreases 10 percent for every 10 ㎍/㎥ increase in fine dust concentration, and that would be more severe among those with belly fat, meaning that they are more likely to be vulnerable to fine dust.
To lose belly fat, doctors advise a low-fat diet with a high proportion of proteins.
"If you eat too much high-fat meat, you easily gain weight around your abdomen," said Kim Jung-eun, who runs a clinic in Seoul. "Low fat, protein-rich dishes such as fish and eggs are recommended, while high-fat meat like samgyeopsal, or Korean-style bacon, should be avoided."
Drink lots of water and eat high-fiber foods such as fruits and vegetables, especially on days when fine dust levels are high, as they can help eliminate dust particles from your body.
Most people do sit-ups to lose belly fat, but power walking or cycling can be more effective than simply working on your abs, because you can get rid of belly fat when you lose your weight overall.
