The Paris Baguette bakery chain will break ground on a bread factory in Brittany, northwest France in the second half of this year, operator SPC Group said on Monday.

"It will be our first bread factory in France," said a spokesman. The factory, which will produce "dormant" or ready-to-bake frozen dough, will be built on a 30,000 sq.m site.

Some 1,300 food companies are located in Brittany, the center of the French food industry, surrounded by about 30,000 farms, so it will be easy to receive raw materials.

SPC chairman Hur Young-in also plans to increase the number of Paris Baguette stores in the European country.

The bakery chain will open its third French outlet in Mont Saint-Michel. The rocky island was included in the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1979, and more than 3.5 million tourists visit each year.
