The two-day candidate registration period for the June 13 local elections closed on Friday.
The National Election Commission said more than 9,300 people have registered across the nation, with nine candidates in the running for Seoul mayor. The average competition rate is 2.32 candidates per office.
Koreans will choose the mayors, governors, local council chiefs and education superintendents who will represent them for the next four years.
Candidates can officially start campaigning from Thursday.
