Samsung and SK Hynix saw a sharp rise in their semiconductor sales in the first quarter of this year.
Samsung's sales topped US$19 billion in the January-March period to post a 43 percent on-year increase, according to a report released by industry tracker IC Insights on Wednesday. Samsung toppled its U.S. rival Intel to become the world's biggest chipmaker.
SK Hynix sold over $8 billion worth of semiconductors in the first quarter, a 49 percent on-year increase.
