The number of newly added jobs topped 100,000 in April according to Statistics Korea on Wednesday. A total of 26.8 million people are now employed in the country, up some 123,000 from the same period last year.

In January, new jobs exceeded 300,000, but the number hit the lowest level over the past three months since the 2008 financial crisis. New jobs were mainly created in healthcare and the public sector, while job openings sharply dropped in education, service, retail and wholesale.

Overall unemployment came in at 4.1 percent last month, down 0.1 percentage point on-year. Youth unemployment also fell by 0.5 percentage point but was still stubbornly high at 10.7 percent.
