A 28-man roster for the upcoming World Cup, which kicks off in a month in Russia, was announced on Monday.
Along with key players from the European leagues such as Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur and Ki Sung-yueng of Swansea City, half of the roster is filled with K-League footballers including midfielder Lee Jae-sung and forward Lee Kun-ho. Lee Seung-woo who plays for Italian outfit Hellas Verona was also included.
As each nation can field a maximum of 23 players, head coach Shin Tae-yong will have to further narrow down the squad and finalize the roster by early June.
A flurry of injuries to several players including Kim Min-jae and Yeom Ki-hun forced Shin to change his plans for the lineup. Kim and Yeom, who suffered injuries early this month, will be sidelined for several weeks.
Shin plans to monitor the players for the next few weeks before they head to Austria for training on June 3.
