Park Sung-hyun won the Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic on Sunday with an 11-under 131. It was her third LPGA career title and first of the season.
Park made a brilliant debut on the LPGA Tour last year, sweeping the Rookie of the Year and co-Player of the Year honors as well as the money title. This season, however, she has missed two cuts and made the top 10 only once in seven appearances, sparking talk of a "sophomore slump."
Nonetheless, Park proved herself last week at the tournament in Texas, which was shortened from 72 to 36 holes due to high winds and heavy downpours.
"Since I did so well last year, I felt a lot more pressure this year," Park said through a translator after the event.
She said that her goal for this season is to bag three wins.
Four other Korean golfers finished in the top 10 at the tournament. Kim Sei-young tied for fourth place while Jenny Shin finished sixth and Ko Jin-young and Lee Mi-hyang tied for eighth place with Lydia Ko of New Zealand.
