Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur will likely be included in the roster for the Asian Games in August, about two months after the FIFA World Cup in Russia.
"Son wants to compete in the upcoming Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, which will kick off in mid-August," said Kim Hak-bum, a coach of the men's under-23 football team on Tuesday.
Kim arrived in Korea on Tuesday after looking for potential candidates currently playing in Europe, including Lee Seung-woo of Hellas Verona and Paik Seung-ho of Girona FC.
Son was not initially under consideration as the quadrennial event is restricted to players under the age of 23. But Son can be given a wild card entry because each team can field up to three players who are over the age limit.
"Son is eager to participate, so I'm considering it positively," Kim said.
