Yu-ra, a member of girl group Girls Day, spoke of her experience of taking on an antagonist role for the very first time since she started acting in 2012 in addition to her singing career.
In the latest KBS TV series "Radio Romance," which concluded last month, she played an actress who started out as a successful child actor but has slipped out of the spotlight and is determined to do everything to regain the popularity and fame she used to enjoy.
"I wanted to depict the character as a cheerful villain viewers can sympathize with, but there were so many lines that were strongly worded. To many viewers, I must have looked quite vicious," said Yu-ra. "I can't watch myself acting because I feel so embarrassed. I always feel regret when I finish each project," she said.
"I'd like to diversify my portfolio and become a more versatile actor. At the same time I'd like to remain down-to-earth so that viewer can feel comfortable when they see me perform," she added.
How does she feel about having a two-track career, as a musician and an actress? "When I'm on stage as a singer, I am so engrossed in that moment and the excitement that the stage brings. But after those thrilling three minutes are over, I feel an enormous sense of emptiness," said Yu-ra.
"On the other hand, in acting I feel more focused and immersed as I don't do anything else during rather long shooting periods. But I'm on my own, so I feel a lot more responsibility and pressure than being on stage as a singer, where I have the three other members I can count on."
However, Yu-ra is still full of passion and determined to do better in music as well. "As I mature, I feel my music should mature too. So I try to learn and practice more and become better inside and outside."
