National football team manager Shin Tae-yong on Monday unveiled the roster for two pre-World Cup friendlies in Europe this month.
Korea, ranked No. 58 in the world, will play No. 26 Northern Ireland on March 24 and No. 7 Poland on March 28.
Shin said, "Swedish and German players [who we will face at the World Cup] are well built. My concern is how well our defense can deal with that. Our defenders on the sides, in particular, are relatively short, so cooperation is needed."
Most of the national team's fullbacks, including Kim Jin-su (177 cm) and Kim Min-woo (172 cm) on the left and Choi Chul-soon (175 cm) on the right, are less than 180 cm tall. As Korea will face Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich, one of the world's best strikers, in a friendly against Poland, the match will be an important test of its defense.
"Our strikers, including Kim Shin-wook, Son Heung-min and Hwang Hee-chan, are in very good condition," Shin said. "We will do our best to prepare well for the World Cup through the friendlies."
