Ex-South Chungcheong Province Governor An Hee-jung voluntarily presented himself at the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office on Friday afternoon to answer allegations that he raped two women who worked for him.

"I'm very sorry to everyone, especially the residents of South Chungcheong Province and those who supported me. I feel terrible for my wife and children," An, who appeared calm, told reporters.

He pledged to cooperate "faithfully" with the investigation.

Former South Chungcheong Province Governor An Hee-jung appears at the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office in Seoul on Friday.

It was his first public appearance since his secretary Kim Ji-eun appeared on TV program early this week and accused An of repeatedly raping and sexually harassing her over the past eight months.

A second woman who worked for a political think tank An set up has since also come forward to accuse him of rape.
