The southern port city of Busan will host an LPGA Tour event from next year with the launch of LPGA international property.
The city on Wednesday signed a partnership with the U.S. golf association, with Mayor Suh Byung-soo and LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan and CEO Jon Podany present.
Under the deal, Asiad Country Club, which was used during the 2002 Asian Games in the city, will be reborn as LPGA International Busan in the summer of 2019 after undergoing renovations.
Korea is among the seven Asian countries that host LPGA tournaments, along with China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. Busan will be the second LPGA venue in the country, following the KEB Hana Bank Championship in Incheon.
