Over 80 Korean athletes and sports officials participating in the Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang entered the athletes' village on Tuesday. They were the first group to enter the village along with those from the Czech Republic among 49 participating countries.
Some 36 Korean athletes will compete in six disciplines including biathlon, cross-country skiing, ice hockey and snowboarding.
"I'm proud of every one of you. I hope you to show us what you've prepared for years," said Park Eun-soo, who is in charge of the village, in his welcoming speech.
Korea hopes to win three to four medals with an aim to finish in the top 10.
Bae Dong-hyun, who leads the Korean athletes, encouraged them with a pledge of cash incentives to medalists. Gold medalists in individual events will be entitled to W100 million, silver medalists W50 million and bronze medalists W30 million (US$1=W1,078). As for team events, medalists will get between W100 million and W300 million.
