Incheon International Airport served as the gateway to Korea during the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and played a key role in ensuring they went smoothly.

It set up an exclusive gate for Olympic athletes and other officials to facilitate their arrival and departure and provided "off the airport process" services in Gangneung, where the Olympic village and media center were located, thereby cutting down on processing time at the airport.

The number of passengers surged during the Winter Olympics. On Sunday, when the closing ceremony was held, the airport saw a record 215,421 people enter and leave, and it handled 200,707 pieces of luggage, also a record.

The opening of Terminal 2 in January enabled an even distribution of travelers and improved processing efficiency. Some 73 percent of visitors used Terminal 1 and the rest Terminal 2.
